This is a place where I will muse over motherhood and exploring our new home of Spearfish, South Dakota in The Black Hills, and share photographs from sessions! Rooted and Wild Photography has moved to Spearfish, South Dakota. So many members of our family moved here, my parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins and cousins and cousins, and my brother. They called for us to come visit, come see The Black Hills where they fell in love with a new land. So we came. The very first place we went when we arrived in Spearfish after days of driving from Port Orchard, Washington with our toddler and baby was Spearfish City Park.

We are two generations of mothers inspired by the women who give their families roots while raising their children wild. It is a wonderful moment of patience spent knowing that you are soon meeting the little being that will change your life forever. It is a profound time, certainly one worth […]

One is brunette, the other is blonde. They are the sweetest pair, a set of girls bound by sisterhood. They will always have each other to laugh with, to cry with, to make memories with and that is pure magic. I am obsessed with photographing relationships. The love that binds a family together is unlike […]

I hope she remembers when she was a small girl she loved to smell the flowers and twirl in flowing dresses. I hope she remembers all the wonders she discovered in forests and on beaches. I hope she looks back and smiles when she thinks of the games she played and the thoughts she had. […]
